Muslim Brotherhood hopeful slams Suleiman's election bid

Muslim Brotherhood hopeful slams Suleiman's election bid

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s presidential candidate, Khairat al-Shater, has criticized former Egyptian spy chief’s decision to run in presidential race, saying it could spark a second revolution in the country.

According to IRIB, al-Shater said in Cairo on Sunday hours after Omar Suleiman filed his candidacy for the elections "I consider his entry an insult to the revolution and the Egyptian people."

The polls are scheduled to be held in two rounds. The first would be held over two days on May 23 and 24, while a run-off, if necessary, would take place on June 16 and 17. Final results are expected on June 21.

Suleiman served as the Egyptian intelligence minister during the regime of former dictator, Hosni Mubarak.

Al-Shater added "Omar Suleiman has made a big mistake. He will only win through forgery and, if this happens, the revolution will kick off again.” The Muslim Brotherhood candidate also reminded that he had spent 12 years in prison during the Mubarak era
